I held my 60th birthday party here on 3/9/11 and Martin & Mel provided a wonderful afternoon tea and superb hospitality to my 40 friends and family who attended. I had asked for a traditional tea party and this was exactly what they delivered, complete with crustless sandwiches, scones and cream and cakes galore! The beautiful gardens with ducks, chickens and rabbits provided entertainment for the children and a safe place to run around. Highly recommended for friendliness, quality of food, service and venue!

"Didn't want to go home!"
Reviewed 17 October 2011 NEW
From the moment we arrived, Basil (Mel & Martin's dog) greeted us as we emerged from the car. It was the start of a very welcoming first stay at Church Farm Guest House.
Upon our arrival our room was not quite ready due to a shower fault that was being fixed but Mel (the co-owner with her husband Martin) made us a drink and kept us informed of the problem.
We had Room 5, which is in a separate building to the main house. This is a very nice room with modern yet traditional styling.
The following morning we had one of the best cooked breakfast's that we have tasted. Also try the pancake stack, as this was delicious as well.
Ignore any previous negative reviews about Basil, he is the most placid and friendly dog that both my partner and myself have come across. He did come in at breakfast times but he just sat at your feet waiting to be made a fuss of.
We stayed for 3 days and wished we could have stayed for more as we did not want to leave. Mel, Martin and Basil truly make this a relaxing and welcoming place and we would not hesitate in recommending this to anyone.
Nothing was ever too much trouble for Mel or Martin.
"Perfect Weekend"
Reviewed 25 September 2011
This was our third visit to Church Farm Guest House ~ another 'two nighter' in the company of friends. There's a guaranteed warm welcome from Martin, Mel and their family, including Basil the dog (who incidentally is NOT a Pitbull, as described by one ill-informed guest who stayed there recently!).
Martin has taken on a new venture and is also cooking at The Plough, a public house located just over a mile away from Church Farm. The Friday night meal at the pub was superb ~ the main course of steak was 'to die for' especially when accompanied by a glass of real ale and fine wine.
We did extensive walking in the area and visited the World Heritage sites at Ironbridge (located just 15 minutes away by car) and the nearby market town of Wellington. We arrived back in Church Farm on Saturday evening to consume a sumptuous four-course dinner that had been prepared by Martin. The quality and presentation of the food was simply outstanding.
There is an extensive breakfast menu ranging from tasty yogurt with fresh fruit to 'full Monty' cooked English breakfast (fresh Duck or chicken eggs from Church Farm).
Church Farm Guest House is a perfect place to relax and we have highly recommended the place to several of our 'foodie' friends.
We will be back!
Thanks again from John & Sarah.
Just returned from a thoroughly enjoyable 3 night stay at Church Farm Guest House and I have to say how much we enjoyed our time there.
Superb hosts for whom nothing was too much trouble, and the best breakfast I think I have ever had!!
We even made a new friend in Basil, Mel & Martins little dog who greeted us on our arrival & every morning before breakfast!!
A highly recommende place to stay.
Steve & Debbie from Grimsby.
Well, what can I say?! We stayed with Martin, Mel and the family this weekend and have all had a truly wonderful time. From the minute we arrived we were made to feel incredibly welcome and nothing was ever too much trouble, infact it felt like we were a part of the family!
Our rooms were beautiful, well appointed and very comfortable indeed. They have even inspired a desire to perform some interior decorating back at home, not good news for my husband! The lounge was lovely to relax in and catch up with family before heading for the dining room.....and then to collapse in afterwards!
We ate in Basil's restaurant and the food was truly fabulous, we were all left wanting more but sadly without the space to put it! Breakfast was another treat in itself, as a group we ordered six very different breakfasts but all were cooked to perfection and certainly set us up for a busy day or two, delicious!
As for the bombastic Basil, I would 'trip advise' you to ignore a previous reviewers bizarre and media hype induced comments, total rot! Any dog less like a 'pit bull' I have yet to see, Basil was a treat for us all and a true gentleman. He loved nothing more than a tummy tickle and an ear rub, which totally made the trip for my youngest daughter (and yes, she does still have all of her fingers and toes!). My husband is rather afraid of dogs and had he found himself sharing the guest house with an 'intimidating pit bull' he would certainly have made for the nearest Travelodge..... instead he enjoyed the superbly relaxing environment provided at Church Farm and was even caught giving sneaky ear rubs to Basil himself!
Anyway, a superb five stars on all counts! I would thoroughly and unreservedly recommend that anyone who has the opportunity to stay at Church Farm does so - regardless of the purpose of your visit. I am certainly making plans to stay again and shall be eagerly looking forward to it!
I had stayed here many, many times over the years but under the previous owners. It was always a homely, relaxing and a great place to stay. It is now an even better place to stay having been substantially modernised with most rooms (but not all) having an en suite.
First, let me mention Basil the dog. I have never owned a dog and am not a huge dog lover. But Basil is different. He's a softie and not very big who never once growled or barked in the 3 nights I stayed - and that includes letting myself in late at night. He really was not a problem for me. However, if you really have a problem sharing a lounge or dining room with a well behaved, affectionate but non-dribbly dog - then look elsewhere. After all, this is his home too.
The room and bed were as good as can be in an old listed house - excellent night's sleep and I am a very light sleeper. The breakfast was superb - the bacon not too thick but certainly not wafer thin, sourced locally and cooked to perfection, as was were the sausages. A full English is one of the delights of staying in a B&B - I can honestly say I have not tasted better. I would have no hesitation about returning - in fact, I would drive several miles out of my way to reach Church Farm. It really is up there with the best.
This was the third time we have stayed at Church Farm, obviously to return we were impressed enough to make a third visit, but this was the first time with our two daughters (Ella 7 & Lucy 4). Instantly our daughters hit it off with Rosie and Megan, which made our weekend even more relaxing. Our evening meal was delicious, four enjoyable courses, but not left feeling too stuffed. Mel and Martin and the staff were very friendly and helpful and understood what it is like to have children when away from home. Breakfast was great my only regret was not being able to break away from the Eggs Benedict as I liked it so much. And of course no review of Church Farm would be complete without mentioning the true owner of the restaurant Basil, the very friendly and fussy dog.
When asked if she wanted to come again Lucy said she wanted to come 'a million and nine times'.
We were greeted with a really warm welcome and were received in an efficient and organised manner. The house has real character which is enhanced by the engaging and enchanting Board family. Our room was comfortable with a modern en-suite and the little extras that symbolise attention to detail.
The house is in a very peaceful village and made for a great base for visits to the tourist attractions in Shrewsbury, Ironbridge and Bridgnorth. We enjoyed three great days out and welcomed restful nights.
The breakfast menu offered is first rate and the produce fresh and very well cooked and presented. Our only regret is not booking for the evening meal on Friday, perhaps next time!
Mel is helpful and obliging, offering attention in a relaxed and informal manner. The four star ratings they hold are richly deserved.
We stayed with friends for 2 nights over Easter and had a really lovely stay.On arrival we were greeted with tea and cake in the beautiful garden and a delightful impromtu 'show' was given by Rosie and Megan - 2 absolutley adorable little girls.
We had a fabulous meal on our first evening that would equal any 5 class restaurant.
Our rooms had lovely views looking out over the garden and church. Lovely white bedding and towels and a full tray of tea/coffee and biscuits, topped up each day.
Basil the dog is full of character and he kept us entertained along with the girls.
On our last day - Easter Sunday, little Easter treats were left in our cereal bowls - a very nice touch.
We found the location just perfect for exploring nearby Ironbridge and Cosford both only 20 minutes away.
We would happily recommend this delightful family B&B with its lovely hosts, adorable girls and dog and if we are that way again would without doubt stay again.

From the offer of tea when we arrived to checking out on our final morning we were treated to a professional, warm and hospitable stay at this excellent guest house. As other reviews have said the accommodation is very comfortable, there's plenty of space, everything is clean and up to date.
We really liked the free wifi, and I've never seen a more complete set of guest information. Everything you need to know for your stay is there for you in the room, and if you can think of a question that's not covered Mel and Martin are very happy to help.
Then there's the restaurant. This is a real gem. Remember bring your own wine as it's is BYO (there are shops a short drive away if you need to pick some up locally). The food is a very, very high standard and it's excellent value for money. All you have to worry about is having room for the equally excellent breakfast the next morning.

We went for a weekend away with friends and had the most marvellous time. The rooms are comfortable, clean and homely and the breakfast and food generally is of exceptional quality.
However the absolute highlight is the warmth of the welcome. We really felt a part of the family. Mel and Martin are really good fun and Rosie and Megan are delightful. We thoroughly enjoyed our concert from the girls.Even the Basil the Staffy, who was lovable and never left our sides. We would need little encouragement to return.

We only got to stay for two nights but really wish it had been longer. Fab hosts and scrumptious food in a very homely and intimate place. The rooms had all you could possibly need for a relaxing and comfortable stay. We will most definitely be back if we can find an excuse (and to any future guests we would recommend not eating for a week in advance so you can indulge in the best breakfast you'll ever have!).TripAdvisor February 2011

Trip Advisor Feb 11, 2011
This Bed and Breakfast was first class. Mel and Martin are fantastic hosts and nothing is too much trouble. The meals are to die for and not to be missed. There is a wide selection of breakfast available. The rooms are beautifully and comfortably decorated and very clean. I came here for business but would come back for a holiday anytime.

Having had some disastrous hotel stays we decided to try B & B for something a bit more intimate and friendly. We were not disappointed. Martin welcomed us and showed us to our room. It wasn't huge but plenty big enough for a king size bed and on-suite. Spotlessly clean and a beautiful, tranquil view from the window. Dinner that night in the restaurant was superb, and judging from the comments of the other guests, who have been before, this is the norm. Breakfast the next morning was also a feast and kept us going all day. We felt very relaxed in this family setting. Nothing is too much trouble. Thank you, we will definitely be back.
Best B&B stayed at in the UK First impressions on a wet wintry night was that this was a lovely spot in a delightful country village. Mel welcomed us in and made a fresh pot of coffee. Room was clean, fresh and spacious with a shower that delivered. Martin created a breakfast choice that is delightful with fresh farm eggs from the chickens on site (duck eggs also available when ducks are laying) and locally sourced ingredients. This was the best of the B&B's stayed in our travels around the UK. (>40 at present) Booking.com January 2011
Mel and Martin and their two delightful children provide a perfect relaxing getaway in english countryside for families with young children. This is a place where our kids (2.5yrs and 10mths) were welcomed with new toys, new friends and space to run around and play. We felt comfortable settling our kids to sleep and then we ate, drank, surfed the net and chatted whilst listening out for the kids with the baby monitors provided!
Mel and Martin & kids were the real deal. Friendly, helpful and good fun whilst providing us the space to enjoy our own family reunion. The Georgian house was immaculate, grand and tastefully renovated with exposed beams and open fireplaces. Next time we'll definitely book Dinner at Basil's.TRIP ADVISOR JAN 23 2011
Brilliant - You are a "guest" in their house Stayed for 3 nights early Oct 10. Mel & Martin (& family) amazingly friendly and accommodating, nothing too much bother and much more welcoming than staying in your usual soulless hotels (they even phoned in a Chinese first night when I sprang on them that I needed feeding and they had just returned from their holidays). Basil the dog & eggs laid by Hens in the garden were an added friendly bonus. Food has to be seen and tasted to be believed, stunning and very reasonably priced, if you read this and are a bit unsure...Please, give it a go, this is the only review I've ever left, the welcome and feel of the place are that good, probably down to the fact that both Mel & Martin have travelled extensively and know what we want from a hotel/guest house...enjoy Booking.com October 2010
Hi Martin, Mel, Just a quick e-mail to say many thanks for the cookery experience, I had a most memorable time, absolutely fantastic. I have already started to apply my new skills, I successfully made a white wine sauce today and also made some ice cream (oops!), unfortunately it looks like the ice cream needs to set over night, slight glitch but I take it I didn't beat the cream enough! We had to eat a small sample rather quickly, but I know for next time, perseverance.
Whilst shopping today I have purchased the ingredients for the fish risotto, I look forward to making that in the week. Well I will let you go, Karen and I had a great evening and it was a pleasure being your student, I hope I wasn't too bad. See you both soon. Regards John Higgns November 2010
Truly Charming Church Farm Guest House is truly charming location in a delightful small village! My room was very pleasant and comfortable. Food both breakfast and dinner was exceptional and served in a very nice dining room with a real log fire! Couldn't have asked for a better place... everything was perfection! Martin is a brilliant cook so the experience at Church Farm was as advertised 'so much more than a B&B'. Melanie & Martin are a great team - I consider this one of the best B&B's! An idyll...staying at the Church Farm Guest House was an absolute pleasure and considering we had only booked it en-spec we were most pleasently surprised. the room was very comfortable and the view over the garden towards the church was wonderful in the early morning sun. having Basil guarding us made us feel most secure! having spent a week in a 4 star hotel on business the week before we came down made me appreciate the guest house even more as the quality of the room was far superior to the (top flight) hotel. well done to the team. Wonderful Guest House Lovely location and pleasant, relaxed atmosphere - very warm welcome, especially from Megan and Rosie. Very useful information about local amenities provided in room. Very comfortable sitting room and welcoming cup of tea. Room itself was of a very high standard (decor and cleanliness). David Edwards Tonypandy, Wales August 2010
Our stay exceeded expectation. The warm, friendly welcome from Mel, Martin and their family sets the tone for your stay. The rooms are clean and very nicely furnished with good ensuite facilities. Four night stay for combined business and leisure purposes - the second year in succession that we've stayed at Church Farm. Mel, Martin and family are delightful people and it feels more like staying with friends than at a guest house. We plan to return again next year. Beautiful old farmhouse that's been sympathetically restored. Spotlessly clean rooms with good facilities. Wonderful food. Attention to detail. Relaxed atmosphere with nothing too much trouble. From the moment we arrived and given tea and biscuits till we left after breakfast on the 4th day our hosts were charming, friendly and most helpful. The breakfasts were excellent with a very wide selection. Martin is a superb chef and the dinner served made us realise we should have eaten in every night, it was delicious. The quantities served made breakfast a struggle next day. Mel ( and Basil) make you very welcome from day 1 and this attention and friendliness never falters. Brian & Ann Williams June 2010

This is an excellent B&B, one of the best we have stayed at on our John O'Groats to Lands End journey! The suberb 4 course evening meal was of the highest standard, but we still managed a huge breakfast and all in beautiful surroundings. More like a country house hotel than a B&B. Would be great for a family gathering or walking week with friends... Peter & Jane Harris. June 2010 www.macjogle.co.uk

Would find it very hard to fault our short stay at church farm. We were made very welcome from the moment we arrived and soon realised that nothing was too much trouble and came away feeling as if we had been visiting friends. This was a very good short break. We were upgraded to a family room without asking and the general atmosphere of the Guest House was extremely welcoming. As we arrived Basil (the dog) carefully shepherded us from the car to Reception and that set the tone for the rest of our stay. Lots of attention to detail and Mel was very efficient as well as allowing "chat time" in between courses. We ate at Basil's in the Farm for two nights and had the best steaks we have ever eaten. For two nights we ate at Basil's at The Plough (a short car journey away) and again had extremely good food, including Lamb Rump and Mullet - both delightful.
A fantastic place to stay at. The room was spacious and clean. The food was delicious, have at least one dinner there. It was like visiting a friends house they where so warm and accomadating. I would defienetely stay there again. Trip Advisor - Sydney, Australia May 2009

Mel and Martin made us feel at home. They have set a new standard in our minds and we were sorry we had leave after 2 nights with them. Everything was superb, couldn't fault it at all. We even enjoyed the attention of the family dog- Basil.

We have just come home after my father's wedding at Church Farm. Wow, what a day!! The setting was beautiful, the food was fabulous (really really good) and Mel was so hospitable to us all and especially with our 5 month old son! She thought of everything and made it so easy for us to enjoy our stay. The rooms are lovely too! It was like staying with old friends, so relaxed and welcoming...nothing was too much trouble! Highly Highly recommended.

Hello Mel,
a quick email to say thank you very much for making our stay so pleasant, all 3 of us had a wonderful time. You made us feel very welcome and were so helpful with our 3 month old baby and all her needs. Being away from home could have been a difficult experience but you made it so easy by your helpfulness, you helped take away any potential stress. You have a gorgeous guest house, our room was perfect, the breakfasts were so tasty, and all the little things like fresh milk for drinks, a meal in your pub or recommending places to visit added up to make a really enjoyable time. Thank you!

We have just enjoyed a brilliant weekend at Church Farm B&B. Mel and Martin are great hosts both at the Farm and at the Plough. Mel went out of her way to help our daughter with her lap-top connection to the internet, she also organised taxi transport for us and helped with arrangements when we attended our friends' wedding reception. The food was delicious at both places with good quality ale and the menu lived up to it's ratings from the press. The service re. timing of meals was very accommodating. Bedrooms and en-suite facilities were excellent. Thank you both and of course your lovely family, for making our weekend so easy and enjoyable.

Most enjoyable and looking forward to my next stay there. I travel a lot and finding a good place and good food is hard. The food was awesome at church farm so was the staff and atmosphere.

The beds were some of the most comfortable we have found anywhere. The rooms were clean and the en-suite facilities excellent. Unfortunately we did not eat due to illness but we can recommend The Plough for an excellent meal (the Chef was co-owner of the Guest House). Mel dealt with our illness with commendable promptness and arranged for a swift visit to the local Doctor - very kind and considerate. Highly receommended.
